SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol that's used to connect to a web server and perform different tasks through a command line. The protocol is used by many knowledgeable users, due to the fact that the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it cannot be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access could be used for lots of things based on the type of hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for example, SSH is one of several ways to import/export a database or to upload a file in case the hosting server allows it. In case you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for pretty much everything - you can install software or restart certain services including the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is used typically with UNIX-like Operating Systems, but there are clients that enable you to use the protocol if your computer system is using a different OS as well. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote server always listens for incoming connections on that port although a lot of service providers change it for security reasons.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting
SSH access is offered with all Linux cloud service that we offer you. With some of them, it's offered as standard, while with others it's an additional upgrade you can add with a few mouse clicks from your web hosting CP. You may choose the password that you will use and, if required, you'll be able to modify it with several clicks from the same location. All commands that could be used with our shared plans are listed in a help article along with relevant examples. If the SSH access feature is allowed for your account, you will also be able to upload files using your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.

All our semi-dedicated server accounts offer the possibility to access and handle them via SSH. If the package which you have chosen comes with this function by default, you just need to activate the SSH access feature via the corresponding section of the Hepsia CP. Since the VPS accounts include full root-level access, there aren't any restrictions with regards to the commands that you could run. Your server shall be isolated from the others on the physical machine, so you shall be able to manage just about everything through a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots.
